Peach & Lemon Ice Tea, Lime Floral

The Ethiopia Badeyi coffee project is a vibrant collaboration between Falcon Coffees and Mustefa Abakeno, focused on elevating the quality of coffee produced at Mustefa’s two washing stations. With an expanding out grower group now comprising 36 members (29 male and 7 female) across five locations—Bedeyi, Echimo, Jarso, Kebira, and Sedi—we are building a strong community around exceptional coffee.
Mustefa, a dedicated smallholder farmer with 18 hectares in Beshasha Kebele, has always aimed for excellence. Although his coffee scored high marks before shipment, its quality often declined after export. With the help of our agronomist, Harun, we’ve pinpointed key areas for improvement in both pre and post-harvest processes to enhance overall flavor.
Harun is actively implementing best practices at Mustefa’s washing stations, focusing on drying bed management, optimal storage conditions, and careful cherry selection. Recent upgrades include constructing shade netting to protect parchment and managing moisture content to preserve quality. Regular visits ensure that farmers receive valuable guidance on plant health and effective agronomic practices.
Since these strategies were introduced in 2021, Mustefa’s coffee has experienced remarkable improvements, especially in the 2022 season, showcasing enhanced clarity of flavor and mouthfeel. Mustefa has now reputation as a producer of some of the finest specialty coffee in Ethiopia.
